Abington Township is a township located in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 56,103.

census2 of 2000, there are 56,103 people, 21,690 households, and 15,139 families residing in the township. The population density is 1,402.0/km² (3,630.3/mi²). There are 22,367 housing units at an average density of 559.0/km² (1,447.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 84.12% White, 10.82% African American, 0.09% Native American, 3.27% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.51% from other races, and 1.14% from two or more races. 1.57% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 21,690 households out of which 30.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.4% are married couples living together, 9.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.2% are non-families. 25.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.54 and the average family size is 3.10. In the township the population is spread out with 23.6% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 27.7% from 25 to 44, 23.5% from 45 to 64, and 19.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 89.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 85.3 males. The median income for a household in the township is $59,921, and the median income for a family is $70,959. Males have a median income of $47,408 versus $36,572 for females.
