Adam Busby (b.1948) was the founder of the Scottish National Liberation Army (SNLA) in 1980.
He went to Ireland in 1983 to avoid SNLA-related conspiracy charges in Scotland, and has lived there ever since despite repeated attempts to have him extradited to the United Kingdom. He is known to the Irish police as "Moriarty" after the genius who was the fictional Arch-Enemy of Sherlock Holmes, which is said to be a tribute to his high intelligence.
A Gaelic-speaking Maoist revolutionary with an enthusiasm for poetry and philosophy, he has achieved almost legendary status in Scotland after numerous anti-English exploits - including organising SNLA attacks on British targets in the USA. But, despite or because of this, he is a hated figure to the Scottish Establishment and especially to the media, and also to the constitutional nationalists, and especially the SNP, who treat him like a leper.
He is said to have an expertise in Chemical Weaponry and the SNLA is one of the very few groups in the world to have actually used Chemical Weapons - it sent Caustic Soda disguised as Aromatherapy oils to a number of people including Cherie Blair, the wife of British Prime Minister Tony Blair in 2002.
