Adams State was founded in 1921 as a teacher's college but now offers a variety of programs including masters degrees in many fields. Adams State is noted for its outstanding cross-country runnning program. Alamosa is at 7000 feet, or 2000 meters elevation. The school's sports teams are called the Grizzlies.
