Ah, L'amour is Don Hertzfeldt's first animated short; it was completed as a college project in 1995, and was considered by Hertzfeldt himself to be an embarrassment. Despite this, the short went on to win numerous awards, and went on to launch Hertzfeld and his studio, Bitter Films, into cult status. The film itself revolves around the many relationships the creator had throughout the years; that is, in a brutal, exaggerated, and comically masochistic fashion. The film went on to win "World's Funniest Cartoon" from the HBO Comedy Arts Festival in 1998.
