Main Page | See live article | Alphabetical index Aleksandur Stamboliyski 1879 1923 was the prime minister and virtual dictator of Bulgaria from 1918 until 1923. He was a member of the Agrarian Union, a movement which was not allied to the monarchy. It came to power in 1918 as Bulgaria was coming out on the defeated side in World War I and the tsar was abdicating. Stamboliyski was popular with the peasants, but antagonized the middle class and military. He was overthrown and executed by the military in 1923. This article is from Wikipedia.
