Professor Alfonso Pérez Agote is a scholar who is completing research for a book entitled La reproducción social del nacionalismo vasco (franquismo y posfranquismo). He works for the Department of Sociology II of the University of the Basque Country in Leioa.
He is married to his wife who is Mari Puri Herrero, a renowned Basque painter. She was recently commissioned by the Biblioteca Nacional to paint a portrait of Cuban poet Dulce María Loynaz.
