Ali Ahmad Said (born 1930), also known by the pseudonym Adonis, is a Syrian poet and literary critic.

Said was born in Qassabin, in Northern Syria and in 1954 graduated from the Syrian University in Damascus.

In 1955 he was imprisoned for six months for being a member of the Syrian National Socialist Party. Following his release from prison in 1956, he settled in Lebanon.
