Allegany is a village located in Cattaraugus County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 1,883.

census of 2000, there are 1,883 people, 753 households, and 445 families residing in the village. The population density is 1,038.6/km² (2,690.2/mi²). There are 833 housing units at an average density of 459.5 persons/km² (1,190.1 persons/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 96.55% White, 0.53% African American, 0.21% Native American, 2.02% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.11% from other races, and 0.53% from two or more races. 0.69% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 753 households out of which 27.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.7% are married couples living together, 9.6% have a woman whose husband does not live with her, and 40.9% are non-families. 29.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.38 and the average family size is 2.94. In the village the population is spread out with 20.6% under the age of 18, 16.9% from 18 to 24, 20.2% from 25 to 44, 24.6% from 45 to 64, and 17.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 83.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 78.3 males.
