The Archbishopric of Magdeburg was a state of the Holy Roman Empire lying around Magdeburg along the Elbe River. It went Protestant in 1545, and was secularized as the Duchy of Magdeburg under the Elector of Brandenburg by the Peace of Westphalia in 1648.
