Banda is a form of popular music. Established in northern Mexico in the late 1960s, banda music exploded in popularity in the late 1990s throughout Mexico and in the southwest United States, primarily in Texas and California but also in Iowa, Kansas, and Illinois. Thanks to the rapidly rising popularity of La Banda Sinaloense, the genre has taken on a different role.

Bandas are made up of a number of brass instruments, its most notable being la tambora and trompeta.
