Barrington is a village located in Cook County, Illinois. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 10,168. Barrington is part of the greater Chicago metropolitain area.

Geography

Barrington is located at 42°9'13" North, 88°7'55" West (42.153489, -88.131943)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 12.4 km² (4.8 mi²). 11.9 km² (4.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.4 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.56% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 10,168 people, 3,767 households, and 2,798 families residing in the village. The population density is 853.5/km² (2,211.7/mi²). There are 3,903 housing units at an average density of 327.6/km² (849.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 96.16% White, 0.62% African American, 0.13% Native American, 2.00% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.31% from other races, and 0.77% from two or more races. 2.33% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 3,767 households out of which 39.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.0% are married couples living together, 8.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.7% are non-families. 22.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.70 and the average family size is 3.20.

In the village the population is spread out with 29.9% under the age of 18, 4.3% from 18 to 24, 28.0% from 25 to 44, 25.1% from 45 to 64, and 12.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 90.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 86.7 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $83,085, and the median income for a family is $102,120. Males have a median income of $80,232 versus $38,795 for females. The per capita income for the village is $43,942. 3.1% of the population and 2.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 3.7% are under the age of 18 and 3.8% are 65 or older.
