Bethany is a city located in Harrison County, Missouri. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 3,087. It is the county seat of Harrison County6.

census of 2000, there are 3,087 people, 1,344 households, and 817 families residing in the city. The population density is 269.1/km² (696.2/mi²). There are 1,506 housing units at an average density of 131.3/km² (339.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 99.00% White, 0.10% African American, 0.32% Native American, 0.19% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.03% from other races, and 0.36% from two or more races. 0.62% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,344 households out of which 24.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.1% are married couples living together, 10.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 39.2% are non-families. 35.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 20.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.15 and the average family size is 2.74. In the city the population is spread out with 20.3% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 22.2% from 25 to 44, 20.8% from 45 to 64, and 29.1% who are 65 years of age or older.
