Bob Riley is the current (as of 2003) Governor of Alabama. He is a member of the United States Republican Party. He was elected governor of Alabama in November 2002, defeating the democratic incumbent, Don Siegelman. He took office in January 2003.

In 2003 Alabama state politics gained national attention because of the refusal of the state chief justice, Roy Moore to remove a monument of the Ten Commandments from the court building. Riley reportedly supported Moore, but he ultimately did not play a large role in the dispute, and there was nothing he could do to prevent Moore from being removed from office by a judicial ethics pannel.
