Main Page | See live article | Alphabetical index A burka, burqa or burqua, also called chador (چادر), is women clothing covering the whole body, including the whole face. The eyes are covered with a 'net curtain' allowing the woman to see while other people can not see the eyes. It is used by some Moslem women and was compulsory under Taliban rule in Afghanistan. In the Netherlands a few students wanted to wear it in school, but this has been forbidden because the school educates for professions where non-verbal communication, also through facial expression, is required.
