Actually a successor to the Post Office Department, of the government of Canada, this Crown corporation was created in 1981 under the Canada Post Act, in order to set a new direction for the postal service, in an effort to create a more reliable service, as well as financial security and independence for the country. Canada Post Systems Management Limited, CPSML, was founded by the CPC in 1990 to market the company's systems and technology in the global marketplace.
