Canandaigua is a city located in Ontario County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 11,264.

census of 2000, there are 11,264 people, 4,762 households, and 2,666 families residing in the city. The population density is 945.4/km² (2,447.5/mi²). There are 5,066 housing units at an average density of 425.2 persons/km² (1,100.8 persons/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 96.04% White, 1.53% African American, 0.22% Native American, 0.66% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 0.26% from other races, and 1.23% from two or more races. 1.02% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 4,762 households out of which 27.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 40.7% are married couples living together, 12.2% have a woman whose husband does not live with her, and 44.0% are non-families. 35.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.25 and the average family size is 2.95. In the city the population is spread out with 23.3% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 27.7% from 25 to 44, 22.0% from 45 to 64, and 18.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 91.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 87.5 males.
