Ceilidh is a traditional Scottish dance of fairly simple nature; a mixture of round the room dances and set dances, danced purely sociably. The repertoire is limited, there is no formal technique or central authority controlling the dance form.

The term is now widely used to describe any informal gathering or celebration where there is traditional Scottish music and dancing.

In Ireland, ceilidh exists as céilí.
