Chateaugay is a village located in Franklin County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 798.

Demographics

As of the
census of 2000, there are 798 people, 338 households, and 209 families residing in the village. The population density is 285.3/km² (740.2/mi²). There are 390 housing units at an average density of 139.4 persons/km² (361.7 persons/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 98.25% White, 0.50% African American, 0.63% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.38% from other races, and 0.25% from two or more races. 0.50% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 338 households out of which 27.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.7% are married couples living together, 12.4% have a woman whose husband does not live with her, and 37.9% are non-families. 32.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.33 and the average family size is 2.90.

In the village the population is spread out with 23.6% under the age of 18, 8.6% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 23.3% from 45 to 64, and 16.3% who are 65 years of age or older.
