Chief Township is a township located in Mahnomen County, Minnesota. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 132.

Geography

United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 93.6 km² (36.2 mi²). 89.7 km² (34.6 mi²) of it is land and 3.9 km² (1.5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 4.18% water.

census of 2000, there are 132 people, 48 households, and 37 families residing in the township. The population density is 1.5/km² (3.8/mi²). There are 55 housing units at an average density of 0.6/km² (1.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 85.61% White, 0.00% African American, 8.33% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 6.06% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 48 households out of which 31.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.6% are married couples living together, 6.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 22.9% are non-families. 20.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.75 and the average family size is 3.16.
