The racial makeup of the city is 83.13% White, 14.74% African American, 0.15% Native American, 0.49% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.60% from other races, and 0.89% from two or more races. 1.55% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 2,051 households out of which 28.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.0% are married couples living together, 15.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.1% are non-families. 26.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.46 and the average family size is 2.94.
