In telecommunication, a computer network operating system (NOS) is a specialized operating system designed for computer networking on minicopmputers and microcomputers in a local networking area / campus area network.

Note: A NOS is usually designed to run on existing software designed for that computer and may require interface hardware for the workstation and server.
