For example, the Intel 80386 microprocessor used an optional "math" coprocessor to calculate floating point operations via hardware. Sometimes the CPU is made of coprocessors, instead of a single processor chip. This was the case of the Nintendo 64 console. Today is rare to see a coprocessor in computer architecture.
