D. Boon, born Dennes Dale Boon (April 1, 1958 - December 22, 1985) was guitarist and lead singer of punk rock group The Minutemen. Born in San Pedro, California, he formed the band in the late 1970s with childhood friend Mike Watt on bass and drummer George Hurley. The band signed with SST Records in 1980, constantly touring and releasing albums. While the music was fast and caustic like that of their contemporaries in the punk scene, they often added elements of jazz, funk and folk music into their sound. In addition, unlike most other guitarists, Boon never used distortion on his guitar lines. The Minutemen continued until December 22, 1985, when Boon was killed in a van accident in Tucson, Arizona. The band immediately dissolved, though Watt and Hurley would form the band fIREHOSE soon after. The live album Ballot Result was released in 1987, two years after Boon's death.
