Danang is a region and city in central Vietnam near the ancient capital of Hué.

French troops landed, under the orders of Napoleon III, August 1858, beginning colonial occupation in the area. As a concession it was named Tourane in French. It would become considered one of Indochina's five major cities.

In December 1996, the region was formally designated Danang province. The government of Danang city was inaugurated officially on 1st January, 1997.
