\nAccording to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 6,045 km² (2,334 mi²). 6,021 km² (2,325 mi²) of it is land and 23 km² (9 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.38% water.

There are 922 households out of which 27.20% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.60% are married couples living together, 7.30% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.30% are non-families. 30.80% of all households are made up of individuals and 18.00% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.35 and the average family size is 2.96.
