Digital cable is a term for a type of cable digital television that delivers more channels than normally possible; this is accomplished by using video compression and a digital signal (as opposed to analog) and almost always requires the customer to use a set-top box. Digital cable typically demands a higher fee and comes with additional services such as an on-screen program guide and the ability to purchase pay-per-view programming without the use of a phone line. Recently, some companies have also added video on demand services.
