Eagle Pass is a city located in Maverick County, Texas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 22,413. It is the county seat of Maverick County6. Eagle Pass borders the city of Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico to the south across the Rio Grande.

The racial makeup of the city is 72.73% White, 0.27% African American, 0.39% Native American, 0.76% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 22.71% from other races, and 3.13% from two or more races. 94.90% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 6,925 households out of which 43.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.0% are married couples living together, 18.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 19.3% are non-families. 17.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.22 and the average family size is 3.69. In the city the population is spread out with 32.7% under the age of 18, 8.6% from 18 to 24, 25.6% from 25 to 44, 19.9% from 45 to 64, and 13.1% who are 65 years of age or older.
