Earl Hofmann was born and educated in Baltimore, Maryland. A noted artist and respected teacher, he was one of Jacques Maroger's early protegés. Hofmann's wide range of artistic endeavors included easel and mural painting, sculpture, liturgical design, medical illustration and restoration. His works were included in major exhibitions such as the Corcoran and Venice Biennials and are in various museum collections, and in numerous public and private collections. He was one of the original "Six Realists", a group of Baltimore, Maryland painters.
Earl Hofmann followed the methods of Maroger in searching for the highest level of quality and craft, and in the perpetuation of the principles, techniques and use of materials of the Masters. He continued to conduct research in order to improve upon Maroger's reconstructed formulas of these oil painting mediums. In later years he was "Artist in Residence" at St. Mary's College of Maryland.
