Elsa the Lioness (1956-1961) was a female lion raised by Joy Adamson (1910-1980) in Kenya. Elsa was a mild domesticated pet that had later been tought to hunt and live in the wild. One day she brought home three cubs of her own. She died early of tick fever. Her amazing life was perpetuated in Adamson's book "Born Free" and later in a movie of the same title.
