The Enoch Pratt Free Library is one of the USA's oldest free public libraries, located in Baltimore, Maryland. Established in 1882, the library now includes 24 branches in and around Baltimore. The Central branch was designated the State Library Resource Center for the State of Maryland by the Maryland General Assembly in 1971. An extensive collection related to the life and work of H. L. Mencken is held in the Humanities department, including personal correspondence and memorabilia, typscripts, presentation volumes, clipping books, and research materials used in writing The American Language. The central branch in 2003 was renovated and expanded.
