Ernst Didring

Ernst Didring (October 18 1868, Stockholm (Östermalm) - October 13 1931, Stockholm) - Swedish writer.

Biography

wanted to become a teacher, but could not finish his studies due to lack of money,

1884 worked as an office clerk in the head office of the Swedish railways,

1899 he married the Danish teacher Jeanne Rye,

was very involved in founding "Statsbanens Pensonering" (1910),

full time writer from 1914,

1915-20 leader of the Swedish red cross for war prisoners,

1915-20 and 1923-29 leader of Sweden's writers society,

1920-22 traveled through Europe (France, Switzerland, Italy and Germany),

1930 Prize of the "Samfundet De Nios".

Works

His main series and best known book is the novel trilogy Malm (iron ore) which was published 1914-1925. It describes the life in the north of Sweden at the beginning of the 20th century.
