Expo 88 was a Worlds Fair held in Brisbane, Australia between April 30 and October 30 1988. The theme of the Expo was "leisure in the age of technology" and the fair was part of the celebrations surrounding the Bicentenary of the British colonisation of Australia that year.

After the end of Expo, the site remained derelict (and a political hot potato) for some years, before redevelopment into Brisbane's Southbank parklands. Few features of the original site remain - probably the most notable of them is the Nepalese "peace pagoda". The "skyneedle", a tall tower with a rotating spotlight on top was purchased by flamboyant Brisbane businessman Stefan Ackerie and relocated to his corporate headquarters in nearby South Brisbane where it remains a prominent Brisbane landmark.
