Main Page | See live article | Alphabetical index Ezzard Charles (July 7, 1921 - May 27, 1975) was a professional boxer and former Heavyweight champion of the world. Charles began his career as a Light-Heavyweight, and he was chosen by Ring Magazine as the best Light-Heavyweight of all time. He was a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, and his nickname was The Cincinnati Cobra. Charles' career spanned from 1941 until his retirement in 1959. During the course of his career he beat such notables as Joe Louis, Jersey Joe Walcott, Archie Moore, and Joey Maxim, posting a career record of 96-25-1 (58 KO's).
