The first issue of Far Eastern Economic Review was published on October 16, 1946. It has been one of the leading business magazines in the Asian region throughout the years.

According to the editorial statement in their inaugural issue, "The purpose of this weekly economic publication is to analyse and interpret financial, commercial and industrial developments; to collect economic news; and to present views and opinions with the intent to improve existing conditions.
