\nAccording to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,605 km² (1,006 mi²). 2,590 km² (1,000 mi²) of it is land and 14 km² (6 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.55% water.

The racial makeup of the county is 99.47% White, 0.08% Black or African American, 0.15% Native American, 0.04% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.27% from two or more races. 0.23% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
