During the 20th century it has become increasingly common that colleagues and pupils of a scholar or scientist celebrate his/her 60th or 70th birthday by editing a special volume, comprising original papers on relevant topics. Since no English designation for such a book has been established, the German word Festschrift (literally: 'feast writing') is widely used internationally. - A Festschrift can be anything from a slim volume to a work in several volumes. It often includes important contributions to scholarship or science.\n
