Final Fantasy 1, originally known as Final Fantasy, is a role-playing video game originally developed for the Famicom in 1987, the released in America on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1990, and later remade for the Sony Playstation in 2003 as a component of Final Fantasy Origins. Final Fantasy 1 was also released in Japan for the MSX and the Wonderswan Color. The Playstation version is based on the Wonderswan Color version. Final Fantasy Origins was released in April 2003.

Final Fantasy I involves the four young heroes known as the Light Warriors as the protagonists. As the synopsis said, the world was veiled in darkness, the wind stopped, the sea went wild, and land began to rot down. The antagonist is called Chaos. The game starts in Cornelia. First, the Light Warriors save Princess Sara, then the King of Cornelia orders the construction of a bridge. Shortly thereafter, the legend begins. The Light Warriors take a quick stop at Pravoca, then they meet Bikke the pirate. The fiends of the four elements the Light Warriors had to encounter were Lich, Marilith (formerly Kary in the U.S.), Kraken, and Tiamat, and then they fight the final confrontation against Chaos.

Final Fantasy 1 was developed in connection with Squaresoft's brush with bankruptcy in 1987. Hironobu Sakaguchi said that his final game would be a fantasy RPG, hence the Final Fantasy video game franchise was born. Also, Final Fantasy 1 has set the standard for role-playing video games. The classes are Warrior, Thief, Monk, White Mage, Black Mage, and Red Mage. Their promoted forms are Knight, Ninja, Master, White Wizard, Black Wizard, and Red Wizard.

Nobuo Uematsu was 27 years old when he scored Final Fantasy 1 on the NES. The boss battle themes are used only in the Wonderswan and Playstation.
