Francesco II of Gonzaga (1466 - 1519), Marquis of Mantua, ruled Mantua from 1484 to 1519. He had a semi-successful career as a military captain, acting as Venice's commander from 1489 - 98. During his absences, Mantua was governed by his wife Isabella d'Este. On his death, he was succeeded by his son Federico, with Isabella acting as regent.
