Heavy Metal is an American illustrated fantasy magazine started in the late 1970s.

Initially it reprinted most of its material from the French magazine Metal Hurlant, with comic strips by Enki Bilal, Jean Giraud ('Moebius'), and Phillippe Druillet; and long-running serials by Richard Corben and Matt Howarth. Generally, stories involve science fiction and fantasy themes.

Some critics feel Heavy Metal's style and content is too violent and pornographic, and argue for protectively banning its sale to minorss. Despite such objections, Heavy Metal's sale is not restricted to adults only in the US.
