Main Page | See live article | Alphabetical index Two ships of the Royal Australian Navy have been named for the Hawkesbury River in New South Wales, a continuation of the Wollondilly and Nepean Rivers, which flows into Broken Bay. The first HMAS Hawkesbury (K-363/F-363) was a River class frigate laid down by Morts Dock and Engineering Company at Balmain in New South Wales, launched on 24 July 1943 and commissioned on 5 July 1944. Hawkesbury was decommissioned to reserve in May 1947 but recommissioned in July 1952. HMAS Hawkesbury paid off on 14 February 1955 and was sold on 21 September 1961.
