After a two-year spell at Dundee he transferred south of the border to play for Arsenal, eventually transferring to play for Manchester United F.C. Many people considered his talents as a defender to be somewhat deficient. He acquired a further degree of fame as a celebrity guest on the BBC soccer quiz game Quiz Ball.
