The Innocence Project is a non-profit legal clinic based at Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. It directly serves only defendants who can conclusively be proven innocent, by DNA testing of evidence, done after their convictions.

The clinic was founded in 1992 by Barry C. Scheck and Peter J. Neufeld. It claims to have exonerated 138 defendants as of 2003.

In addition to services to individual defendants, it performs research and advocacy related to the incidence and causes of false convictions.
