In computers, the Java Enterprise System (JES) is a bundled package of products and services from Sun Microsystems, for the purpose of including all that is necessary to operate an enterprise’s information technology (Sun Microsystems, Inc., n.d.). The entire package is priced at 100 USD per employee, per year (Vance, 2004), which was billed as a radical approach to pricing (see Sun Microsystems, Inc., n.d., and Vance, 2004).

In 2004, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts made a decision that was considered a positive indicator for the possible future of JES, by choosing to use JES for its own systems (Vance, 2004).
