Jim McDermott (born 28 December 1936, in Chicago, Illinois) is the current US Congressman for the 7th district of Washington, representing the Democratic Party. He was first elected to Congress in 1988.

Rep. McDermott, as a licensed physician (MD, University of Illinois Medical School, 1963), is particularly interested in health care issues.

Jim McDermott told a Seattle radio station December 15, 2003 that the U.S. military could have found Saddam "a long time ago if they wanted." Asked if he thought the weekend capture was timed to help Bush, McDermott laughed and said, "Yeah. Oh, yeah."

McDermott went on to say, "There's too much by happenstance for it to be just a coincidental thing."
