Kanyakumari is a city on the southernmost point of India. It is located in the state of Tamil Nadu. During British rule of India, it was known as Cape Commorin. The closest major city is Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of Kerala.

It is the meeting point of three water bodies, The Arabian Sea, The Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean. It is an important pilgrimage centre for Hindus. It is at Kanyakumari that Swami Vivekananda, a great spritual leader and philosopher, did his meditation and there is a memorial named after him here.
