During British rule of India, it was known as Cape Commorin. The closest major city is Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of Kerala. It is the meeting point of three water bodies, The Arabian Sea, The Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean. It is an important pilgrimage centre for Hindus.
