Kingman County is a county located in the U.S. State of Kansas. As of 2000, the population is 8,673. Its county seat is Kingman, Kansas6.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,245 km² (867 mi²). 2,236 km² (863 mi²) of it is land and 9 km² (3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.39% water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 8,673 people, 3,371 households, and 2,420 families residing in the county. The population density is 4/km² (10/mi²). There are 3,852 housing units at an average density of 2/km² (4/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 97.45% White, 0.21% Black or African American, 0.58% Native American, 0.24% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.35% from other races, and 1.15% from two or more races. 1.44% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 3,371 households out of which 32.40% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.90% are married couples living together, 7.10% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.20% are non-families. 26.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.80% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.51 and the average family size is 3.03.

In the county the population is spread out with 27.40% under the age of 18, 5.80% from 18 to 24, 24.70% from 25 to 44, 22.50% from 45 to 64, and 19.60% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 96.30 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.50 males.
