On the World Wide Web, a link farm is a large group of web pages created with the intention of creating hyperlinks to one another. Link farms are normally created programmatically, rather than by human beings. This is usually done to try to influence Internet search engine rankings, in order to pick up hits from users. These link farms may also be used to promote other websites, directly or indirectly. Search engine operators usually attempt to detect link farms, and to remove them from their indices or penalize their content rank. FFA's are a particular type of link farm.
