Loughton is a town in Essex, England. It is inside the M25 and is an outlying part of the London commuter belt.

It has a population of about 30,000 and is administered by Epping Forest district council and Loughton Town Council. Loughton covers about 3,500 acres, of which over 1,300 acres are open forest land. The town is principally residential, but is also home to the Bank of England's printing works, where all English banknotes are printed.
