Mabuhay Gardens was originally a Filipino restaurant and club on Broadway in the North Beach neighborhood of San Francisco, an area famous for its strip clubs. Rock promotor Dirk Dirksen rented out the club and began booking punk bands there, and the venue soon became one of the centers of punk rock in San Francisco in the late 1970s and early 1980s. In January 1978 the Sex Pistols played one of their last shows there, shorly before breaking up, and through the next few years numerous bands, including the Dead Kennedys, would play there. The club shut down in 1986.
