Malinao is a 4th class municipality in the province of Aklan, Philippines. It is located on Panay Island, geographical location 122° 10' to 122° 19' East, 11° 40' to 10° 35' North. Area 18,601 ha. In other words, Malinao is a town nestled in the fertile Aklan valley in the hinterlands of the province of Aklan on the island of Panay in the Visayas, Philippines. Malinao, an interior town of the province of Aklan, is usually described as "a town where the rhythm of life is slow, almost lazy." True. But this description doesn't really do justice to the town. Beneath its sleepy and beautiful exterior is a vibrant, progressive and forward-thinking town inhabited by highly educated populace that somehow is able to combine old-aged traditions with life in modernity. Once an arrabal of the town of Banga to the east, Malinao's town leaders in the mid 1700s were able to submit a petition of separation direct to Manila that somehow got approved. In addition, Malinao rose to prominence in Philippine history during the struggle against colonial rule under Spain at the end of the 19th century. One of its sons, Candido Iban was a member of the inner circle of the original Katipuneros directly under Andres Bonifacio.
